:: TRIBUTE TO NINOY

:: E-MAIL LETTERS

Dear fellow Filipinos,  Let us not forget, for our sakes. Benigno Aquino, Jr., born Nov. 27, 1932, died Aug. 21, 1983. I remember his words: “ The Filipino is worth dying for. ” Ninoy was sure. But it seems to say more about the man than about the people. Now, twenty years after, the Filipino seems to have forgotten or perhaps never really understood the meaning of those few words - few words of challenge and farewell from a brave and brilliant Filipino who fought a dictator, was imprisoned, went to exile then returned to his country - to die - for his people. With all that is happening, sadly, I wondered what Ninoy would say now. Spontaneously, (in thought), facing me he said : “LOVE”. I thought: just one word, apolitical, too high, lofty, ‘hindi bagay’ to say to a cantankerous and cynical people. He added: “ Love God, love your country.” Oh, now I see. Clearly. Completely. Love for God and love for his people are why Ninoy said: “ The Filipino is worth dying for.” It seems to have been said in a political context, but it was not a political statement after all. Love had united his thoughts with God, with and in whose behalf he had said, and now in a different light we recall: “ The Filipino is worth dying for.” Let us be grateful. Ninoy's martyrdom once again reminds us of the One Supreme Sacrfice - for one reason, one message: LOVE.

“ Do not get involved in politics,” my father had said when I was a freshman at UP Diliman during martial law. He died August 21, 1998. I wonder what he would say to me now…

I am so happy that I found a website like this, honoring the greatness of the late Senator Ninoy Aquino. I am currently researching about Ninoy Aquino, and luckily I found this site. Im glad I chose him as my topic for my research. I know it will open my mind and understand clearly the things that are happening in my sorrounding in spite of being one of the youth of current times.

Ninoy said "Pilipinos are worth dying for" Take note I didn't use the "F" letter. Say that again, " ...dying for". Really! But we betrayed him. We betrayed our heroes! We betrayed every national heroes dating back years ago. We betrayed our modern day heroes like soldiers and policemen and women who gave up their lives ( I mean these military personnel who are truly dedicated to their duty and country) " Pilipinos are SELL OUTS". After all the Edsas, after the Oakwood mutiny, blood compacts (past and present), mga drama ng ating mga liders. Tapos na yan. INUMAN NA. Wala lahat iyan dahil sa ating masamang kultura. Of course, we some of the best cultures we can be proud of. But some of the worst can wash away the good ones. Take this one. We are never serious in changing our bad characters. We never follow thru the vision of our heroes. We never apply the law and stick to it or until it is done. Simply put, we just sing and dance to it. Medya,medya lang at baka makalusot. Tapos "Inuman na". Talk to you later.
